How it works

One Round MilDot calculator enables to measure accurately the distance to the target, which is necessary to make an accurate shot, by simply aligning two numbers:
1. Measure the scope size of target (measured in Mil-dots);
2. Slide to align it with the actual size of the target.
The calculator will instantly show distance to the target.
In order to operate to use it, you have to know the size of the target (be it a traffic sign, average door height or the size of IPSC target.

Larger targets:
This calculator has been designed with shooting competitions in mind and therefore the target scale goes only up to 40” or 100cm. It is possible to use the calculator on larger targets buy using half the target size and doubling the range. For example a standard exterior door is 80” high. When you use 40” mark and the calculator shows range to be 300 yards or meters, then simply double the range to get the correct distance (600 yards or meters). You can also use other easy to calculate conversion: 1.5X or 3X. Just make sure you do the calculation in opposite directions: if you reduce target size 2 times (1/2 of the target size) you have to increase the range 2 times.

MIL to MOA conversion:
You can also do MIL to MOA and MOA to MIL conversion.
On the US/Imperial version: please align 7 MIL with 24 in (or 10 MIL with 34.40 in). You will see MOA on the inch scale (everywhere except 40=0.1). Please look at the photo.
On the metric version: please align 1 MIL with 33,7 cm or set the calculator to 337 meters range. You will see MOA X 10 on the cm scale.

Imperial example:
Let us suppose You measured on Your scope a 22” wide object’s scope size to be 0,85 mils. Aligning these values with each other (A), the slide ruler shows the distance to the object being 720 yd (B). In only takes 2-3 seconds to calculate the range.

Every long-distance shooter knows how important it is to determine the exact distance of the target. Fast control measurements with other targets in the same range can be made without any further adjustment of the calculator: it always shows all object size / mils ratios effective for selected range.
Let’s suppose You manage to measure another object with a size of 40” in the same range. You measure its scope size to be 1.5 mils (C). This fast double-check confirms the range to actually be 741 yd (D). This example shows how fast and easy it is to make double check’s and how intuitive the calculator is –  event at the range of 700 yd, adjustments of just a couple of yards can be made quickly.

Metric example:
Let us suppose You measured on Your sight a 50 cm wide object’s scope size to be 0,7 mils. Aligning these values with each other (A), the calculator shows the distance to the object being a bit over 710 m (B). In only takes a 2-3 seconds to calculate the distance.

Let’s suppose You manage to measure another object with a size of 100 cm in the same range. You measure its scope size to be 1.37 mils (C). This fast double-check confirms the range to actually be 730 m (D).

Some of the calculators come with back side DOPE card stickers instead of printed back size. I added traffic sign sizes there although they are not the same in all EU countries. I have used general provision from this 2016 draft and checked the sizes against page 74 of this report. Please double check your local traffic sign sizes before use.
On US/Imperial versions the traffic signs sizes might not be the same in all US states, but they should be correct in most cases.
The traffic signs sizes printed on the sticker are: urban area, single lane highway, dual lane highway and motorway.
